This group of ag experts promotes the No. 1 industry in Colquitt County and in Georgia. As home of the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo, Colquitt County is in the influential position to host legislators and urban business representatives. Ag Committee members serve as knowledgeable guides around the Expo and county ag operations while educating these influential people on Colquitt County products.
The Ag Committee sponsors workshops and programs in partnership with other agricultural organizations, such as the University of Georgia County Agents and the Young Farmers Association, to help farmers become more profitable and efficient in their operations.
The committee's aim is to secure a proclamation naming Farm/City Week within the county and sponsor events in conjunction.
One of the more fun and enlightening projects is the Job Swap program in which a farmer trades places with a non-ag business professional for a day. Both get a glimpse at life on the other side of the fence, and their adventures are typically covered by local media. The Ag Committee also sponsors a Youth Safety Day, a Colquitt County Extension Production Meeting with a Farmers Appreciation meal and solicits nominations for the annual "Agri-Businessperson of the Year" award.
