Falling for the waitress that serves your patty melt…. Telling your boss where to go… Living paycheck to paycheck, while you still can… That’s “Lust ‘N’ Rust, The Trailer Park Musical!” by Frank Haney, Carol Kimball, and Dave Stratton.
Arts Center Theatre will begin work on this production the end of January and it will be performed March 23, 24 and 25 in Wright Auditorium at the Colquitt County Arts Center.
Melissa Bair and I will be directing the production and we are very excited. What makes it even more exciting is that one of the authors is a high school friend of mine, Frank Haney. I am hopeful that Frank will be able to join us in Moultrie for the Georgia premier of this play. We plan to have several special events surrounding the production.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 23, at the Arts Center.
The musical features wonderful country music and calls for five men and four women. Following is a synopsis of the musical, which can be found on their web site at www.lustnrust.com:
“Lust ‘n Rust is the story of Steve, a corporate manager from New Jersey who is transferred by his company to a small Southern Illinois town to run the local Agribig food processing plant. He moves into the Redbud Mobile Estates and meets the quirky characters that live in the trailer park.
The spirit of the Redbud Mobile Estates can be summed up by the chorus of a country-waltz anthem sung by the cast:
‘Here at the Redbud, you won’t be impressed
Mostly we sit back and chill.
Here at the Redbud, you won’t get depressed
Play tunes and fire up the grill .’
Steve’s life is immediately complicated by a relationship with Connie, a neighbor in the park who waits tables at Smitty’s Diner. Connie is splitting up with her soon to be ex-husband, Duane, who is trying to gain Connie’s forgiveness for an unfortunate incident. Steve’s life is further complicated when he gets a difficult assignment — an action that could have a disastrous impact on the local economy.”
Hopefully, this little tease will peak your interest. Come on out and be a part of this production. In addition to acting in the performance, we can always use help with music, sets, costumes, lights and sound, ticket sales and everything it takes to pull off a production of this kind!
