SUMMARY:Watercolor Portrait Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore watercolors through the process of portrait painting with artist Jane Paul Angelhart. This course is a comprehensive overview of the watercolor portrait process covering topics from applying the paint to the paper to handling a commission. The course includes daily exercises to understand how to control the water to pigment ratio necessary to achieve glowing colors. Pre-drawn images of children's faces are provided as exercises\, and step by step demonstrations are done daily. Students are encouraged to take on a larger painting from a photo of someone familiar. Some topics of discussion and demonstrations include: how to lay out a palette\, which pigments to chose and why\, the advantages and limitations of painting from photographs and computer screens\, how to do a photo shoot for a watercolor portrait\, the job of doing portrait commissions\, the necessity for drawing proficiency and how to improve it\, and topics to encourage and improve students' ability to paint a watercolor portrait. Students are encouraged to bring portfolios for critique\, paintings in progress\, problem paintings\, photographs of prospective portraits\, digital camera\, and laptop computer\, and questions. More advanced students are invited to bring photos / images on paper ready to begin.
